FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
Will I get messy? What should I wear?
Yes—clay can get messy, and that’s part of the fun. We recommend wearing comfortable clothes you don’t mind getting clay on. Closed-toe shoes are best, and long nails can make throwing more challenging. Aprons are a good idea if you have one, but we also have some available in the studio.
What happens if I miss a class?
If you miss a class, arrangements can be made to make it up at a later date, depending on availability. We understand life happens and will do our best to help you stay on track with your work.
What is included in the class?
All classes include clay, instruction, studio access during class time, and the full firing and glazing process for your finished pieces. You’ll be guided through each step from raw clay to completed work.
How many pieces will I make?
- Beginner 7-week throwing class: typically 10–12 finished pieces
- Intermediate class: typically 20–25 finished pieces
Each student works at their own pace, so final counts can vary slightly depending on size, complexity, and time spent refining pieces.
Do I need any experience to join?
No experience is necessary for beginner classes. We start with the basics and build skills week by week. Intermediate classes are designed for students who already have foundational wheel-throwing experience.
How long does it take to get finished work?
Because clay requires drying time, glazing, and multiple firings, finished pieces are usually ready a few weeks after your last class. We will notify you when your work is ready for pickup.
Can I keep everything I make?
You’ll get to choose your best pieces to be trimmed, glazed, and fired. Instructors may help select pieces that are most structurally sound.
What if I’ve never touched clay before?
Perfect—that’s exactly what beginner classes are for. You’ll be guided step-by-step, and most students are surprised by how quickly they improve.
